Funnels

Funnels are automated, multi-step marketing sequences that guide customers through a defined journey — from first contact to loyal repeat buyer. Pointless POS includes a set of ready-to-use default funnels and a full template and timeline builder so you can customize or create your own.

How Funnels Work

A funnel is a series of timed actions — typically emails, tags, or internal notifications — that trigger based on a customer event. When the event fires (a new signup, a birthday, a purchase anniversary), the funnel starts the sequence and each step executes on its scheduled delay.

For example, a sign-on funnel might look like:

DelayAction
ImmediatelySend welcome email with getting-started tips
Day 3Send a follow-up with your top products or services
Day 7Offer a first-purchase discount code
Day 14Check-in email asking for feedback

Funnels run automatically once a customer enters them — no manual effort required after initial setup.

Default Funnels

Pointless POS ships with three ready-to-use funnels that cover the most common customer lifecycle moments. Each can be used as-is or customized to match your brand and messaging.

Sign-On Funnel

Triggers when a new customer creates an account or is enrolled in your loyalty program. This funnel is designed to make a strong first impression and establish early engagement.

Typical uses:

  • Welcome the customer and introduce your brand
  • Highlight your most popular products or services
  • Provide a first-purchase incentive
  • Set expectations for future communications

Birthday Funnel

Triggers automatically on or before a customer's birthday. Requires a date of birth on the customer's profile, which can be collected at signup or through a loyalty enrollment form.

Typical uses:

  • Send a personalized birthday greeting
  • Deliver a birthday discount or free item offer
  • Drive a visit during the customer's birthday month

Customer Anniversary Funnel

Triggers on the anniversary of the customer's first transaction or account creation date. Useful for reinforcing loyalty and rewarding long-term customers.

Typical uses:

  • Thank the customer for their continued business
  • Offer an anniversary reward or exclusive discount
  • Highlight how much they've saved or spent as a loyalty member

Custom Funnels

Beyond the defaults, you can build your own funnels for any occasion or business goal. Custom funnels are built using two components: templates and timelines.

Templates

A funnel template defines the content and structure of each step — the email subject lines, body copy, offers, and tags applied at each stage. Templates are reusable, so you can build one template and apply it across multiple funnels or use it as a starting point for variations.

To create a template, go to FluentCRM → Funnels → Templates and click Create Template. Define each step's content, then save.

Timelines

A funnel timeline controls when each step in the sequence fires — how many days, hours, or minutes after the trigger or after the previous step. You can set different timelines for different customer segments, allowing more aggressive follow-up for high-value customers or a slower cadence for new contacts.

Timelines are configured in FluentCRM → Funnels → Timelines. You can mix delays freely: send the first email immediately, wait 2 days for the second, wait a week for the third.

Creating a Custom Funnel

  1. Go to FluentCRM → Funnels → Create Funnel.
  2. Choose a trigger — for example, Tag Applied, Form Submission, Purchase Made, or a custom event from Pointless POS.
  3. Assign a template (or build steps inline).
  4. Set the timeline — configure the delay for each step.
  5. Define the target segment or leave it open to all contacts.
  6. Activate the funnel.

Once active, any customer who matches the trigger condition will be enrolled automatically and move through the sequence on your defined timeline.

Tips

  • Start with the defaults — The sign-on, birthday, and anniversary funnels cover the highest-ROI moments. Get those running before building custom ones.
  • Use tags to exit funnels early — If a customer makes a purchase mid-funnel, apply a tag to remove them from a discount sequence so you don't give away margin unnecessarily.
  • Test before activating — FluentCRM's test mode lets you simulate funnel execution with a test contact before it goes live.
  • Keep timelines realistic — Sending 5 emails in 5 days is a fast way to get unsubscribes. Space steps out and make each one valuable.
  • FluentCRM — Funnels are part of the FluentCRM integration included with the Pointless POS WordPress plugin.
  • Deep Link URL Parameter Reference — Use deep links inside funnel emails to route customers directly to specific POS screens or offers.
