Pointless POS shows three types of product recommendations on each product detail page. All three are controlled by the View Similarly Purchased Items toggle in Settings > Software & Hardware > Interfaces under Home Page — Customer View.

Recommendation Sections

When enabled, the following sections appear below the product details:

1. "Items Bought With [Product] Recently"

Shows products that have been purchased in the same transaction as the current product. This is based on actual order data, making it the most behaviorally accurate recommendation.

  • Source: Transaction history — items that appear together in closed orders.
  • Recency: Prioritizes recent purchases.
  • Display: Grid of product cards with images, names, and prices.

2. "You Might Also Like"

Shows products that the system associates with the current product through staff-defined item associations.

  • Source: The Item Associations panel in the product editor's Web Editor.
  • Control: Staff manually define which products are related to each other.
  • Use case: Pair a vape pen with compatible cartridges, or suggest a matching accessory.

Shows products that share meta tags with the current product.

  • Source: Product meta tags configured in the Web Editor.
  • Interaction: Clicking a meta tag chip on the product page triggers this search, returning all products with that tag.
  • Use case: Tag products by flavor profile, effect, brand line, or ingredient to create automated cross-links.

Configuring Item Associations

  1. Open a product in the editor.
  2. Switch to the Web Editor tab.
  3. Find the Item Associations section.
  4. Search for and select products to associate with the current item.
  5. Save the product.

Associated products will appear in the "You Might Also Like" section on both products' detail pages.

Configuring Meta Tags for Recommendations

  1. Open a product in the editor.
  2. In the Web Editor tab, find the Meta Tags field.
  3. Add comma-separated tags (e.g., earthy, calming, indoor-grown).
  4. Save the product.

When a customer clicks any tag chip on the product page, the "Related Products" section populates with matching items. Products sharing more tags appear in more recommendation contexts.

Meta Tag Best Practices

  • Use consistent spellingearthy and Earthy are treated as different tags.
  • Keep tags lowercase for consistency.
  • Use hyphens for multi-word tags: high-thc, citrus-flavor.
  • Tag at the product level, not the variant level — all matrix children inherit the parent's recommendation context.

Enabling Recommendations

  1. Navigate to Settings > Software & Hardware > Interfaces.
  2. Under Home Page — Customer View, toggle View Similarly Purchased Items to ON.
  3. Click Save.

All three recommendation sections will appear on product detail pages when data is available. Sections with no data are hidden automatically.

Performance Notes

  • Items Bought Recently requires transaction history. New stores will see this section populate as orders accumulate.
  • Item Associations are immediate — they appear as soon as you save the associations.
  • Meta Tag Related is instantaneous — any product with matching tags will appear.
