Receipt Printers
Driver Installation
Download and install the printer driver from the manufacturer's website before connecting the device.
- EPSON: Use the EPSON Advanced Printer Driver (APD) — download from epson.com
- EPSON TM88VII
- Star Micronics: Use the Star Micronics driver package
After installation, add the printer in Windows under Settings > Printers & Scanners and set it as the default.
Common Issues
Printer not detected
- Confirm the USB or Ethernet cable is firmly connected.
- Reinstall the driver and restart the print spooler service: open Services, find Print Spooler, right-click and select Restart.
Receipts not printing after Windows update
- Windows updates can reset driver settings. Reinstall the driver and verify the printer is still set as default.
Cash Drawers
Cash drawers typically connect via the receipt printer's RJ11/RJ12 kick port and do not require a separate driver. If the drawer is not opening:
- Verify it is connected to the printer's cash drawer port (not a phone jack).
- In PointlessPOS Settings, confirm the correct printer is selected as the cash drawer trigger.
- Test the drawer from the printer's self-test mode.

Barcode Scanners
Most barcode scanners are HID (plug-and-play) and do not require a driver. If the scanner is not recognized:
- Unplug and reconnect the USB cable.
- Test the scanner in a plain text editor to confirm it is sending input.
- If using a Bluetooth scanner, re-pair the device through Windows Bluetooth settings.
