Lesson Scheduling — Overview
Lesson Scheduling lets you offer bookable lessons to customers. You configure start times, define lesson offerings, set instructor availability, and generate bookable slots. Customers then browse and select lessons through a public-facing booking page.
Key Concepts
- Offering — A lesson type linked to an inventory item. Each offering defines duration, party size limits, capacity, and whether it is private or group.
- Slot — A specific lesson time that customers can book. Slots are pre-generated by admins based on config, offerings, and instructor availability.
- Instructor Availability — Weekly recurring rules and one-off adds or blackouts that determine when an instructor is available to teach.
- Shop Closures — Dates when the entire shop is closed. Closures override all instructor availability.
- Student:Instructor Ratio — The number of students per instructor. This ratio caps the effective capacity of each slot.
How It Works
The lesson scheduling workflow has two sides:
- Admin side — You configure the system, create offerings, set instructor schedules, generate slots, and manage the staff calendar.
- Customer side — Customers visit the public booking page, pick a lesson, choose a date and time, and select their party size.
Prerequisites
Before setting up lesson scheduling:
- The lessons you want to offer must exist as inventory items in your product catalog.
- Instructors must be set up as staff members with the Instructor client type.
Admin Setup
Setting up lesson scheduling involves several steps. See the guides below for each:
- Admin Setup — Configure start times, create offerings, and generate slots
- Managing Availability — Set weekly schedules, one-off exceptions, and shop closures
- Staff Calendar — View and manage slots, assign instructors, change slot status
Customer Booking
Once slots are generated and instructors are assigned, customers can book through the public lesson booking page. See Booking a Lesson for the customer flow.
