Staff Package Groups

The staff package groups view shows how an order's items are packed into physical boxes. It is used for fulfillment prep and pack verification.

Accessing the Dialog

The package groups dialog is launched via a function button. Admins configure the button through the function-group button editor.

  • Staff view — One card per package showing contents, dimensions, and weight.
  • Admin view — Includes a side-by-side pricing comparison between grouped and individual-package rates.

Package Cards

Each package is displayed as a card showing:

  • Title — Package name (e.g., "Package 1")
  • Contents — Each item listed as Name x Quantity
  • Dimensions and Weight — Box size and total weight
  • Label — "Label not yet purchased" until the label is bought

Re-Packing Orders

If order items are added or removed after shipping options were first quoted, staff can re-compute the package groups. This re-runs the packing algorithm without re-validating the address or re-quoting rates. The refreshed grouping replaces the previous one on the order.

Admin Pricing Comparison

Admins can compare the cost of grouped versus individual shipping. The dialog shows two rate sets side by side:

  • Grouped — Uses the configured box profiles and grouping rules.
  • Individual — Treats every order line as its own package.

This helps verify that box profiles are configured to save on shipping costs.

Example

Order: 4 x Product A (6x4x2in, 10oz each) Box profile: Small Box (10x8x6in, max 80oz)

With grouping enabled, the algorithm packs 3 units into one box (height exactly fills) and places the 4th unit in a second box. The order ships as 2 packages instead of 4, reducing the total shipping cost.
