DataCap Supported Devices
Pointless POS supports the following DataCap-compatible card readers and payment terminals. Device availability depends on your Android EMV or DC Direct configuration.
Handheld Android Devices (Android EMV via Bluetooth)
These Android handhelds run the DSI EMV Android protocol. They connect to the POS terminal over Bluetooth and handle the full EMV payment flow on their built-in screens.
| Device | Connection | Screen | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| PAX A920Pro | Bluetooth | Yes | Full-screen EMV terminal, on-device tip prompts, receipt printing |
| PAX A920ProMax | Bluetooth | Yes | Enhanced processor and battery over A920Pro, same EMV workflow |
| PAX A77 | Bluetooth | Yes | Compact handheld with EMV card reading and receipt printing |
All three connect the same way: pair the device via Bluetooth, select it from the Bluetooth Device Name dropdown in the terminal's DC Direct Settings, and enable DC Direct Android in Transaction Settings. For setup steps, see DataCap Android EMV.
For detailed PAX A920 setup including installation, token application, and device configuration, see PAX A920 Handheld Units.
Desktop Pin Pads (DC Direct via Network)
Stationary pin pads that connect over the network using the DC Direct protocol.
| Device | Connection | Screen | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| PAX A30 | Network (IP) | Yes | Standard desktop pin pad with card swipe, dip, and tap |
| PAX A35 | Network (IP) | Yes | Next-generation A30 with larger display and faster processing |
Both devices require network configuration (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) on the device itself, followed by parameter download from the POS. For setup steps, see DataCap DC Direct.
Bluetooth Card Readers
Screenless card readers that connect via Bluetooth Classic. These devices have no display of their own — the POS terminal shows live card reader status (insert card, processing, remove card) on screen during the transaction.
| Device | Connection | Screen | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| IDTech VP3350 | Bluetooth Classic | No | Compact card reader — swipe, dip, and tap. Live status shown on POS screen. |
The VP3350 (and VP3300) require Bluetooth permissions on the Android POS device. Use the List Bluetooth Devices button in DC Direct Settings to discover paired devices, then select the reader from the Paired Bluetooth Device dropdown. On-device tip prompts are not available for screenless readers — tips are handled on the POS screen instead.
Enabling Devices
After configuring the terminal in Settings > POS List, enable the processor in Settings > Software & Hardware > Transaction Settings:
- DC Direct Integration — for PAX A30, A35, and other networked pin pads
- DC Direct Android — for PAX A920Pro, A920ProMax, A77, VP3350, and other Bluetooth-connected devices on Android
Troubleshooting
- Bluetooth device not found — Make sure Bluetooth permission is granted and the device is paired at the Android system level before opening the DC Direct Settings panel.
- Device appears to freeze during reset — A Bluetooth device reset can take up to a minute. Wait for the progress indicator to complete.
- Tip prompt not showing on the reader — Screenless readers (VP3350) don't support on-device tips. Tip selection happens on the POS terminal screen.
