DataCap Soft POS

Soft POS lets an Android device act as a card payment terminal using its built-in NFC reader — no separate card reader hardware is needed. Soft POS works with DC Direct on Android devices.

Soft POS is only available on Android devices. It will not appear on desktop or non-Android platforms.

Prerequisites

  • Android device with NFC capability
  • DataCap merchant account
  • DC Direct Integration enabled in Transaction Settings

Configuration

  1. Navigate to Settings > POS List.
  2. Select the terminal (Android device) you want to use for Soft POS.
  3. Scroll to the DC Direct Settings section.
  4. Set the Soft POS User ID field. This value is provided by your DataCap merchant services and is required to activate the Soft POS option.
  5. Save the terminal settings.

Using Soft POS

After configuring the Soft POS User ID, a Soft POS button appears on the DC Direct Settings panel.

  • During a transaction, tap Soft POS to launch the Soft POS payment dialog.
  • An active order must exist — the button will be disabled until an order is in context.
  • The customer taps their contactless card or mobile wallet against the back of the Android device.

Testing

To test Soft POS from the DC Direct Settings panel:

  1. Ensure an active order exists in the POS.
  2. Click the Soft POS button.
  3. Tap a contactless card against the device to complete the test transaction.

If the Soft POS button is disabled, verify that the Soft POS User ID is set and that an active order is in context.
